About Me

I am a visual artist who specializes in abstract paintings.

The best I can trace my interest in art goes back to an art class I had back in 7th grade. The class was given the opportunity to “create anything we wanted”.  I found an old piece of wood in my dad’s scrap lumber pile and spent the next few weeks carving it into an owl. That is one of the times I remember school being really fun and loved the freedom to create what ever I wanted.

My interest continued into high school where I was introduced to airbrush painting by my teacher, Ted Blenderman. I spent countless hours practicing and had aspirations of becoming an illustrator. With that in mind, I pursued a degree in graphic design and finished college with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kearney State in 1989. After graduation I worked as a graphic designer for: print shops, the creative services department of the Lincoln Journal-Star, and eventually my own graphic design business.

My painting inspiration in part comes from a trip I took to a stone and tile warehouse years ago. I thought the huge sheets of granite and marble looked like amazing paintings. Since then I enjoy the challenge of trying to create intriguing visuals out of random, earthy texture in my own paintings. Now when I paint, it’s a way to experience that same freedom of no rules art provided me as a kid.

My professional journey had it’s beginning in Lincoln, Nebraska, extending to the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix, Arizona, with a brief stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The past few years, I’ve established my creative studio in the Hill Country of Driftwood, Texas. Amidst the rolling Oak and Cedar trees is where I currently call home. I am so lucky to have the loving support of my wife Kim (who is the yellow to my blue), family and friends.

Thank you for your interest and if you enjoy my work, even better!
